Survey of Recent Developments in Radiacs and Their Components.
Abstract:
A survey was conducted to determine recent advances in radiac instrument design in order to insure a nonduplication of effort in the design and development of future Navy radiacs. The survey indicated that most laboratories were satisfied with commercially available radiacs for routine work and only designed or modified radiacs to satisfy their particular requirements. The military services are not involved in any large scale radiac development. The Army recently initiated a small research and development R and D contract with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to improve Army radiacs. It is apparent from the survey that no large scale effort is being conducted in radiac design and development, and that the Navy should initiate a program of its own to improve its radiac instrumentation. Solid state detectors and integrated circuits are two recent developments that appear to be attractive for use in a new generation of Navy portable radiacs. Modified author abstract
