Production and Inventory of High Quality Optical Glass Blanks.

The objective of the program was to establish a manufacturing capability for high acuity optical glass blanks within the United States and to prove that capability by producing an inventory of 28 optical glasses. The report describes the background of the project, the preparations for productions, the production operations, the one composition approach, and data on glass produced. The production of this glass demonstrates that the technical knowhow and evaluation techniques exist in the United States but the demand for such glass is not sufficient to economically maintain a production facility ready to make such glass without funding from some governmental source.
