Modifications of Triple Ejector Rack Geometry to Reduce Bottom Station Weapon Separation Perturbations at High Speeds.

Abstract:

Several modifications to the geometry of the triple ejector rack were proposed to reduce the rapid nose down pitch experienced by large diameter weapons released from bottom TER stations on F-4 aircraft at high speeds. Both captive trajectory simulations and pressure distribution surveys were performed during wind tunnel evaluations of the effectiveness of each proposed modification. All testing was done at Mach 0.66 or 0.9 with Reynolds number on the order of 2 to 4 million per foot. A follow-on flight test program was conducted to determine the feasibility of employing the most promising triple ejector rack modification to improve the high speed separation characteristics of full scale SUU-30Bb dispenser munitions.
