Abstract:

Microprocessors currently available have been examined in detail and found to have the capability of replacing special function logic modules and of performing as multiprocessors. The feasibility of partitioning microprocessors onto the Project 2175 card was demonstrated. It was shown that this form factor did not pose significant problems in the design of two systems. The capability for quick and easy design using microprocessors has been shown to be possible through 1 a family of standard microprocessing modules, 2 a computer-generated backplane wire list, and 3 a software operating system for reducing software development time. From systems examined in detail using microprocessors it was shown that the use of these standard processor modules will decrease system development time, decrease cost and increase performance, reliability, and maintainability.
