Comparison of Undrained Shear Strength in Anisotropically and Isotropically Consolidated Clay.
Abstract:
A series of R-triaxial compression tests was performed on normally consolidated and overconsolidated specimens of lacustrine clay consolidated both isotropically and anisotropically. Undrained shear strength su and the effective angle of internal friction for normally consolidated specimens were practically the same for anisotropically and isotropically consolidated specimens however, the apparent angle of internal friction of the anisotropically consolidated specimens was greater than that of the isotropically consolidated specimens. Strength envelopes were curved in the overconsolidated range. The pore-pressure parameter A and axial strain at the maximum deviator stress were much smaller for anisotropically consolidated specimens. Modified author abstract
