Abstract:

The electrode AgAgBrHBr was investigated for the true temperature coefficient of its electrode potential. Measurements at 25 and 35C were extended over the concentration range from about 0.001 m to 0.1 m. Extrapolation to zero ionic strength gives the true temperature coefficient of the standard electrode potential. Comparison of the isothermal temperature coefficients of the cell AgAgClHClPt-H2Ag obtained directly, and that obtained by combining the non-isothermal temperature coefficients of the individual electrodes, show good agreement and indicate internal consistency. The activity coefficients of the Cl- ion in KCl were computed on the basis of the experimental values obtained in a foregoing investigation under various theoretical approaches and compared with results obtained by other investigators.
