Structure and Strength of Polymers,
Abstract:
Factors which influence polymer strength are examined in this review of Soviet and foreign research. Results from destructive testing of plastics, polymeric glasses, elastomers, fibers, and solid polymeric systems with high degrees of crosslinking are included. The effect of chemical structure, macromolecular dimensions and shape, and types of supermolecular formations on polymer strength are considered. Fundamental theories of the strength of solids and of polymers are presented. Functions with which the strength of composite materials can be determined are derived. Author, modified-PL
