Diffraction Grating Beam Sampling Technology.
Abstract:
Grating samples for use as laser beam sampling components were developed and tested. In addition, production techniques for these gratings were investigated. Initial evaluation test of methods of production other than the conventional ruling technique showed that etching and electropolishing techniques were not as promising as ionic polishing. Ionic polishing techniques were highly successful both on molybdenum and gold sample gratings. The grating samples were tested for scatter, absorption, microscopic surface quality and macroscopic performance, including diffraction efficiency. Comparative measurements revealed little difference in performance between ruled and ion-polished gratings however, ionic polishing techniques were found to yield more uniform gratings at relatively lower cost.
