Mixed Adsorption of Ethylene and Nitrogen on Tungsten,
Abstract:
Flash filament spectroscopy has been applied to mixed adsorption of nitrogen and ethylene on polycrystalline tungsten. The order of dosing was found to be critically important in determining whether nitrogen is adsorbed. With ethylene preadsorbed at either 95K or 300K no nitrogen is adsorbed but, if nitrogen is preadsorbed, both nitrogen and ethylene adsorbed with the resultant spectrum being approximately a composite of separate nitrogen and ethylene spectra. The surface chemistry of ethylene as reflected by adsorption, stability and hydrogenation activity is identical to that on a clean tungsten surface. Author Modified Abstract
