Outlet Works, Oahe Dam, Missouri River, South Dakota.
Abstract:
Oahe Dam, constructed on the Missouri River in central South Dakota about six miles northwest of Pierre is a rolled-fill earth embankment which has a maximum height of 242 ft and a length of 9300 ft. The multipurpose reservoir created by the dam is one unit in the comprehensive plan for the development of the Missouri River basin. Three models were used in the investigation of the hydraulic performance of the outlet tunnels for Oahe Dam a 160-scale model of the stilling basin for the outlet tunnels, a 125-scale model of the intake, upstream portion of the tunnel, and control shaft of tunnel 6 tunnels were numbered 1-6 beginning with the riverward tunnel, and a 125-scale model of the control shaft including gates, downstream protion of the tunnel, and outlet transition of tunnel 6.
