The French Syntax and Semantics of Philippe, Part I: Noun Phrases.
Abstract:
The details of the collection of a 33-hour corpus of French psycholinguistic data are given, including a methodological analysis of the purposes of the investigation. Simple measures, such as the length of utterance, and the size and kind of vocabulary, are applied to the corpus by way of introduction. As a prelude to further work on the syntax and semantics of this corpus, two grammars for the noun phrases within a fragment of the corpus are discussed. Particular emphasis is placed upon the relation of this work to previous works regarding English corpora. Probabilistic fits of these grammars are obtained from these grammars via computer programs, and the developmental aspects of these fits are discussed. Author
