reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0753493 | Open PDF

Abstract:

The report is a detailed treatment of that portion of the Carrier Task Group CTG air defense problem that deals with denial of enemy air recommaissance effort. The enemy is burdened in their attack with the requirement to conduct sufficient air reconnaissance in order to mount an adequate attack. The study concentrates on the evaluation of the effectiveness of an active CTG air defense strategy against the air reconnaissance threat. This signifies that enemy aircraft approaching the CTG operating area can detect radiation first and can plan their tactics accordingly while suppressing their own electromagnetic radiation until absolutely required. The air reconnaissance active defense methodology developed in the study consists essentially of three models air barrier engagement model, air barrier penetration model, and air barrier logistics model.
