Advective Heating in the Thermosphere During Geomagnetic Storms.
Abstract:
A scale analysis is performed to estimate the meridional wind speeds necessary to effectively redistribute thermal energy by advection to lower latitudes during geomagnetic storms. Winds on the order of several hundreds of meters per second are found to account for a considerable amount of heat transfer in the thermosphere. Meridional winds of this magnitude during geomagnetic storms been reported by several workers. Author
