Abstract:
Practical experience is generalized, wide-scale experimental materials are systematized and the principal theoretical principles for problems of friction, lubrication, and wear in machinery are set forth. A classification is given and physical models of the friction, wear, and damage processes are constucted. Systems of lubrication, types of lubricating materials, and the principles of action thereof are examined. Experimental and analytical rules for friction and wear are presented. Normal and patholic phenomena are defined. Rules for processes of external friction, lubricating action, and wear in connection with a change in the geometric characteristics of surfaces, material properties, surface processing methods, and friction service conditions are examined.
