Effect of Vanadium and Sodium Compounds on Accelerated Oxidation of Nickel-Base Alloys.
Abstract:
The relationship between vanadium oxide, Na2SO4 and accelerated rates of oxidation of nickel base alloys was studied. It was shown that oxides such as V2O5 and MoO3 behave like Cr2O3 which is an effective sulfidation inhibitor and effectively reduce the oxide ion content of Na2SO4. However, whereas Cr2O3 is relatively innocuous with respect to Al2O3, the oxides of V2O5 and MoO3 are liquids at gas turbine operating temperatures and readily flux alumina rich oxide scales. Author
