Abstract:

Gas samples have been collected from freshwater and saltwater marshes and upland soils at 13 localities in northern Delaware, and two localities in Minnesota. The gases in the Delaware marshes consisted primarily of methane, but carbon dioxide, ethane and small amounts of other gases were also present. The observed flux of methane from marsh surfaces range from 0.13 to 4.45 microliterssq cm day. Preliminary data was obtained showing the effect of rainfall on the evolution of gas in marshes. Author
