Acoustic Signal Processing.
Abstract:
The report summarizes the theoretical and practical work performed under the contract. During the early part of the contract, primary emphasis was placed on contributions to the classical theory of signal detectability. The second period of the contract was devoted to modern signal detection theory with significant results obtained in the strategy of employing adaptive receivers. The last period of the contract was characterized by increasing emphasis on applications of theory to actual test situations. The areas investigated were prediction of channel parameters by use of a Kalman-Bucy filter and the intersymbol interference problem in binary communication channels. Several purely practical data-gathering experiments were conducted to obtain longterm statistics on fixed underwater channels. Author
