Abstract:

The structure of Polyacrylonitrile PAN and Cellulose Rayon-based carbon fibers in cross-section was investigated using various microscopic techniques. Commercial PAN FIBERS WERE FOUND TO BE CIRCUMFERENTIALLY ORIENTED ON THE OUTSIDE AND RADIALLY ORIENTED ON THE INSIDE. Thornel fibers Rayon have oriented crystallites parallel to the fiber surface with the structure extending further towards the fiber center in higher modulus fibers.
