Abstract:

Development of system for calibration of high pressure, high rate, air mass flow meters is described. Although two basically different calibration systems are being developed, only the one based on the pressure rise technique is presented in this report. Meters calibrated with these systems will be used for measuring the high pressure air flow into the arc heaters of the 2-Foot and the 50-Megawatt Electrogasdynamic Facilities of the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. Flow rates covered in these tests ranged from 3.2 to 8.8 pounds per second at pressures from 1000 to 2350 psi. When all systems are completed, calibration of flow rates from 0.1 to 20 pounds per second at pressures from 200 to 5000 psi will be possible. Author
