Abstract:
The article analyzes the methods of statistical design and applies them, for illustration, to the example of a digital circuit. The problems of random effects on the performance and the problems of parameter tolerances are discussed first. A random quantity is defined and its characteristics are shown in a mathematical form. Both the moments method and Monte Carlo method of determining the distribution functions of random quantities are shown and compared. When used for evaluating the KMED2 line of logic circuits, these statistical techniques have shown that, after the CONJUNCTION stage, fan-out is possible for two NEGATORS or for a NEGATOR and a NOR. The basic circuit, the approximated density functions, and the results of 400 computation cycles for the worst-case-value are shown. Author
