Experimental Gridded Magnetron-Injection-Gun Prototype.
Abstract:
An experimental magnetron injection gun was designed and built with the specific intent of enhancing and controlling beam noise. The gun is axially symmetric and produces a hollow, high-perveance, electron beam. Both cathode and anode are truncated cones the anode encloses the cathode and is concentric with it. Between cathode and anode are four cylindrical grid wires parallel to the gun axis of symmetry and equidistant from it and therefore also from the cathode distance between adjacent grid wires is constant. After construction, the gun was mounted in a vacuum-tube configuration for experimental evaluation. Noise measurements were made by means of a high-sensitivity spectrum analyzer. Author
