Abstract:
The addition of methylene blue in a concentration of .000006M to CPD blood and the simultaneous addition of varying concentrations of adenine or inosine was investigated by determining the levels of ATP, 2,3-DPG and hemoglobin function during storage of whole blood under blood banking conditions for 6 weeks. The results obtained show that the optimum concentration of inosine results in very high levels of 2,3-DPG and of hemoglobin function after 6 weeks of storage when compared to the controls.
