Management Information Systems Research.

Research on management information systems is illusive in many respects. Part of the basic research problem in MIS stems from the absence of standard definitions and the lack of a unified body of theory. Organizations continue to develop large and often very efficient information systems, but these systems reflect the intuition and practical experience of the designers far more than the application of research. Research on information processing technology has matured significantly in the computer sciences, and management science has contributed a variety of models for planning and decision making. But the transition from these results to the realization of satisfactory management information systems remains difficult indeed.
