An Interconnection Between the Univac 1230 and the IBM 360/91 Computers for Real-Time Radar Studies.
Abstract:
The Univac 1230 and the IBM 36091 digital computers are connected by means of an asynchronous high-speed data link. The data link, developed by APL personnel, is capable of transferring 32-bit words at a maximum data rate of 167 000 words per second over a distance of 1000 feet. The main function of the data link is to provide an interconnection among the Univac 1230, the IBM 36091, and a radar synchronizer in order to perform a real-time digital simulation of a radar environment. However, general-purpose data transfer may take place in a full duplex mode between the Univac 1230 and the IBM 36091 computers without the need for the radar synchronizer. This report will give an overview of the hardware and software development of the high-speed data link. Author
