RTA-9 Radio Relay Link Reliability and How to Improve It,
Abstract:
The article reports on a radio relay link operating between Leningrad and Popovka on the October Railroad. This link, which is 35 km in length, employs RTA-9 equipment. Parameters used to arrive at a quantitative evaluation of link reliability in the monthly performance reports are examined and significant data technical utilization factor, mean-time-to-failure of one station, single-failure-elimination-time, and mean preventive maintenance time for one station are cited. Failure distribution by components is also discussed. Certain of the modifications which have been implemented to reduce abrupt failures in the klystron units - the principal cause of equipment malfunctions - are explained, check-out schedules are discussed, and tube performance is briefly analyzed.
