Implementation of Computer Aided Ship Design Techniques for Electrical and Electronic Systems.

The paper covers in detail the implementation of computer aided design techniques as applied to the generation of directly issuable production drawings that are compatible with present design standards. The report covers seven separate projects conducted during fiscal year 1970 and that resulted in manpower and dollar savings over conventional methods. The concepts, practices, and problems discussed are presented from an engineering management viewpoint. Therefore no special knowledge of the computer programs mentioned is required. In order to more fully cover the subject the design process before, during and after implementation of computer techniques is discussed. This is followed by a detailed examination of the seven projects conducted using the computer. The impact of this implementation is explored, followed by a discussion of areas of possible future application. The paper closes with a set of nine definite conclusions. Author
