Abstract:

The report contains the results of a series of intelligibility tests performed on a Continous Variable Slope Delta CVSD coder-decoder codec subjected to various operating conditions. The test used was the Consonant Recognition Test recently developed by the Speech Techniques Team, Information Acquisition Technical Area, CommunicationsADP Laboratory. The CVSD codec was operated at 19.2 kbs and 38.4 kbs and its performance was evaluated for digital error rates of 0, 1, and 10, and with the codec connected in tandem with other CVSD codecs, a channel vocoder and a Pulse Code Modulation PCM system.
