Germany in 1970: A Summary of Political Developments,
Abstract:
The document reports on the first year in office of the Brandt government, which strove to draw the USSR, Poland, and East Germany into more cooperative relations while stressing faithfulness to Atlantic and West European bonds. A nonaggression pact with Moscow was the main result of these efforts, but fears in Germany and abroad remained that in its eagerness for reconciliation with the East Bonn might in effect enlarge Moscows influence in Europe.
