Authors dealing with electromagnetism encounter difficulties of notation for quantities or dimensionless numbers related to this field, as the number of small and capital letters in the Greek and Roman alphabets is insufficient to cover the large variety of problems involved without avoiding successive uses of the same symbol in several different meanings.
