COCHLEAR MICROPHONIC SENSITIVITY IN THE RAT AS A FUNCTION OF AGE.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0712983 | Need Help?

Abstract:

The report evaluates the suitability of the rat species for studying the effect of ageing on the ear. Cochlear microphonic CM sensitivity was measured at frequencies from 0.1- to 20-kHz in male albino rats Wistar 1 month, 13 months, and 18 months old. The two youngest groups had equally sensitive ears but the ears of the oldest group showed large losses in CM sensitivity at all frequencies. If the rat ear is to be used to study the effect of ageing, special measures are needed with respect to middle-ear infection. Author
