Abstract:

The probability of error for binary permutation modulation, a generalization of orthogonal signals, for white Gaussian fading channels is considered. The emphasis is on the limiting behavior of P sub e for large transmitter memories. By using a discrete channel model, upper bounds on the probability of error are found in a simple straightforward manner. These bounds indicate that as long as the transmitter rate is less than the capacity of an additive white Gaussian channel, the ratio of average received signal power to noise power per Hertz, the probability of error decreases exponentially with increasing transmitter memory.
