Abstract:

Multiprocessor computer systems are investigated by studying the control and synchronization needed in their design. Attention is focused on problems created by operating in a multiprocessor environment. The system under consideration is broken down into elements, all of which are described in detail. All arithmetical and logical operations of the system are performed by the Computing Element. This elements problems such as, Task Assignment Lists and Processor Control are discussed. Memory procedures presented include memory space allocations, conflict resolutions, and routines. System configurations and graceful degradation are also presented. Finally the IBM Systems 9020, which is a current example of a multiprocessor is examined. Author
