THE MEASUREMENT OF BLOOD VESSELS IN RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF SUBMARINERS

Abstract:

The literature describing the relationship between retinal blood vessels and general vascular disease is reviewed. Data on the differences in caliber of arteries and veins AV ratios among normal and hypertensive subjects is summarized. The specific problems that arise in attempting to evaluate AV ratios in different individuals are discussed and a standardized technique for measuring retinal photographs is described which overcomes various difficulties common to AV measurements. Sample data using the technique are given.
