A MICROMORPHIC THEORY OF MIXTURES WITH APPLICATION TO ELASTIC POLYCRYSTALLINE SOLIDS.
Abstract:
A micromorphic theory of mixtures is developed for elastic materials such as polycrystalline mixtures or granular composites to describe their continuum behavior in terms of the average moduli of the individual constituents of the mixture. The theory is intended to extend the classical theory to include physical phenomena in which the wave length of the imposed motion is comparable to the average dimension of the intrinsic discontinuities in the material, e.g., the average grain size or inter-grain distance.
