ANALYSIS OF MULTISPECTRAL SCANNER DATA FOR LOCATION OF SAND AND GRAVEL DEPOSITS.
Abstract:
Data were collected with an 8-channel multispectral line scanner covering the UV, visible, and near IR. A test site near Lake Charles, Louisiana, was chosen as representative of river delta terrain in which the target materials, sand and gravel suitable for engineering construction, could be easily located for ground truth. Digital samples of tape recorded video were computer analyzed by a factor analysis program. The results of the analysis identified three basic terrain types, one of which is associated with the target materials, and permits automatic classification at real data rates to map extended areas of similar terrain.
