Abstract:

The invention involves a lubricant for plastic working of metals. The lubricant is made of water, graphite, and either potassium or sodium nitrate or nitrite or a mixture of both with the addition of a stabilizing agent. To prevent stratification of the suspension, calcium carbonate is used as the stabilizing agent. A modification of the lubricant calls for the following composition 3-10 percent graphite, 20-50 percent of either sodium or potassium nitrate or nitrite or a mixture of both, 3-10 percent calcium carbonate, and 74-30 percent water.
