Test of Caliber 0.50 Barrels Having Reduced Height of Lands
Abstract:
Yaw and pressure firings were carried out in a barrel having reduced lands and in a standard barrel. Bullets fired from the reduced height of lands barrel were practically smooth and the yaw data indicated instability in flight. Calculations show that the reduced height of lands should augment the velocity by about 100 fs at a velocity of about 3000 fs.
