POLARIZATION OF RADIATION RESULTING FROM PROTON-HELIUM ATOM COLLISIONS. PART I. RESEARCH. PART II. ELECTRON SPECTROMETER.
Abstract:
The relative cross-sections and the polarization of the light resulting from the excitation of helium by a proton beam has been measured for four transitions. The analysis indicates that there is a small violation of the delta S O spin rule for the excitation of the 3 triplet D and 3 triplet S states of helium by protons. Also measured was the relative cross-section and the polarization of the Balmer light resulting from the capture of an electron by an energetic proton in a collision with a helium atom. In the final study, the relative differential cross-sections for n singlet P transitions in helium with a 50-300 eV electron beam that has a useable energy resolution of 0.175 eV was measured. Author
