A GRAPHICAL METHOD FOR RELATING COAXIAL CABLE ATTENUATION MEASUREMENTS TO THEORY,
Abstract:
A procedure is described for using a set of accurate measurements of cable attenuation versus frequency to derive, by graphical means, the constants in an analytic expression. For cables having solid outer conductors as contrasted with those having braided shields the resulting equation accurately relates attenuation and frequency over a wide frequency range and separates the effects of conductor loss and dielectric loss. By comparing the constants with those computed from the dimensions of the cable, the conductor average resistivity and dielectric average power factor can then be found. An example is given showing the use of this technique to study the variation of resistivity and power factor with temperature in two reels of cable. Author
