EXPERIMENTS ON THE DYNAMIC TENSILE STRENGTH OF METALS AND PLASTICS,
Abstract:
A drop weight test machine was developed which can subject specimens to tensile strain rates of 50sec. Dynamic and static tensile stress-strain curves were obtained for commercially pure aluminum, high purity aluminum, alpha-brass, and an epoxy resin. The results showed that all these materials are rate sensitive in that the dynamic curves differed significantly from the static ones. The results are discussed in relation to those obtained by other investigators. Author
