IONIC FLUORINE CHEMISTRY.

reportActive / Technical Report | Accession Number: AD0697970 | Need Help?

Abstract:

The report describes attempts to prepare iodine-fluorine interhalogen salts wherein both ions contain iodine and fluorine, or iodine, fluorine, andor oxygen. Three starting materials were successfully prepared, CsIF6, IF4SbF6, and IF6SbF6, whose metathetical interactions would have given desired interhalogen salts. Failure to find suitable solvents for the intended reactions was primarily responsible for a lack of success in this area. In the course of preparing CsIF6 a previously unreported adduct was isolated, CsIF6.2IF5, and infrared and X-ray characteristics are given. One other positive aspect of the investigations is the partial clarification of the reactions of I2O5 with IF5 and IF7 as regards the synthesis of IO2F and IOF3. Author
