A STUDY OF THE STRUCTURE OF SINTERED ALUMINUM POWDER MATERIAL,
Abstract:
An investigation of powder properties, of the properties of SAP pressed rods, of the region of Bragg coherent scattering and of microdistortions in powder particles as functions of the grinding milling time is presented. Particle size prior to nodulizing affects the size of the region of coherent Bragg scattering, this latter approximately equal to the particle size, with the level of microdistortions defined by the nodulizing process and the superheating of the powder during grinding. For cold- and hot - pressed briquets it was found that the dimensions of the r.c.s. and the level of microdistortions remain unchanged, while some decrease in the level of microdistortions was found to occur during hot pressing and cold rolling. Cold deformation of SAP is accompanied by breaking up of the substructure and an increase in lattice distortions. Heating of cold-deformed SAP specimens to 600 degrees C for three hours obliterates differences in degrees of deformation and is accompanied by consolidation of the r.c.s. Author
