CONCENTRATION OF COBALT SOLUTIONS BY REVERSE OSMOSIS,
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to characterize and describe the transport of cobalt solutions through a reverse osmosis RO membrane, evaluate the capability of a commercial RO system to concentrate low-level radioactive cobalt solutions, and compare the results of the laboratory RO studies to the performance of a commercial RO system. This investigation showed that solute transport through these membranes occurred by two processes a diffusional process driven by the solute concentration difference across the membrane, and a pressure dependent process driven by the pressure difference across the membrane. The larger contribution of the pressure-driven process in most membrane modules was predominant in influencing decontamination performance of the commercial system. Author
