Abstract:

A general description of the experience of Soviet and foreign industry with respect to calculation, designing, experimental studies, and operation of aircraft centrifugal pump units is given. The contemporary level of designs and prospects of their development are discussed. Questions of the calculation of the maximum power altitude of centrifugal pumps, their operation in fuel systems with negative and zero overloads, and the influence on the pump operation of temperature and viscosity of a working fluid. Characteristics of the calculation of cavitational characteristics of centrifugal and axial pumps, basic dimensions of the flow-through area of the centrifugal pump, selections of optimal geometric dimensions of a preengaged axial wheel are given. Material connected with the selection of the type of drive optimum in weight to operating characteristics and dimensions is given. Original designs of the most widespread aircraft centrifugal pumps with electric drive are examined. Questions of the designing of hermetic pump units are touched upon. Peculiarities of the joint work of electric drive and the aircraft centrifugal pump are classified and generalized. The dynamics of the operation of the pump-electric drive system is revealed. An account is given of the bases of design, calculation and operation of the pumps with drive from air and hydraulic turbines. Author
