Abstract:

A study is made of the growth and development of the weak or undular bore. Small amplitude theory is used and the solution is made valid over the time range of interest through a variant of the method of multiple scales. The solution implies the validity of Rayleighs result for the speed of the bore. Computed wave heights are in qualitative agreement with observations. Author
