A CLINICAL COMPARISON OF FOUR POSTERIOR INTERMEDIATE RESTORATIVE MATERIALS.

The ability of four zinc oxide - eugenol formulations to serve as long-term intermediate restorative materials was investigated. The materials were 1 zinc oxide - eugenol, 2 zinc oxide - eugenol EBA, 3 a reinforced zinc oxide - eugenol, and 4 a reinforced zinc oxide - eugenol prepared from surface-treated zinc oxide particles. A laboratory comparison of these materials was made in AD-686 730. Over 200 restorations were placed using the four materials in equal distribution. Every 60 days for 12 months, the restorations were evaluated on the basis of maintenance of anatomic form and marginal integrity. The anatomic form and marginal integrity were recorded by means of stone casts obtained from impressions. Analysis of the 12 months of data indicated that materials 3 and 4 were significantly more durable than materials 1 and 2. For Class II restorations, material 4 was better than material 3 P .05 for anatomic form and marginal integrity. Author
