Abstract:

The Gm factors of human gamma G globulin are usually detected by a tube or slide method. Standard Gm typing is limited by its time-consuming nature and difficulties in standardization. An automated method employing autoanalyzer equipment was designed on the same principle as in tube typing namely, the inhibition of agglutination between pre-standardized combination of gamma-globulin coated red cells and an anti-Gm reagent. Two hundred normal sera were typed by both hand and automated methods for Gm a, f, b, and z with identical results. The standard methods appeared to require somewhat less reagents, but were not as sensitive to inhibition as was automated typing. In many other respects, both approaches were comparable.
