SONIC BOOM RESEARCH (1958-1968)
Abstract:
The United States Government has been actively engaged in sonic boom research since 1958 in an effort to learn more about this phenomenon and the means of controlling it. To this end, extensive testing has been done in the field as well as in the laboratory environment. This document is a brief history of sonic boom research. Part I presents a chronological listing of the various field research programs, identifies the Government agencies involved and provides a brief summary of the work accomplished. Part II describes some of the laboratory experiments and theoretical studies conducted under Government sponsorship. Part III contains a listing of publications resulting from these research programs and tells how these documents may be obtained.
