Abstract:

The author presents in detail two methods for calculating truss systems of least weight. The first method involves calculation according to limiting state and consists of two problems 1 selection of cross section of rods which will ensure distribution of stresses as prescribed by the designer, and 2 finding among all suitable trusses the truss of least weight. The second method is to calculate according to impact load, a method which the author feels has not received sufficient study and practice. The influence of a time factor is explained.
