OCEANOGRAPHY OF BAFFIN BAY AND NARES STRAIT IN THE SUMMER OF 1966 AND CURRENT MEASUREMENTS IN SMITH SOUND, SUMMER 1963,
Abstract:
The data collected from USCGC EDISTO, during what may be the most comprehensive and synoptic investigation of Baffin Bay and Nares Strait, is presented. Measurements of temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen have been treated in the classic manner with emphasis on developing the circulation and transport budget of Baffin Bay. The several water masses in Baffin Bay are redefined with the aid of T-S diagrams and the distribution of these water masses in the circulation patterns are discussed with the aid of dynamic calculations and isentropic analysis. The data presented permits some conclusions on the Arctic Ocean origin of Baffin Bay Deep Water. Author
